UMASA statement / Press release, 7th October 2023

10/8/2023 10:19:33 AM

The University of Malta Academic Staff Association (UMASA) stands in solidarity with the students and organisations expressing concern about the stratification of disciplines and stipend allocations. The differentiation between stipends goes hand-in-hand with the hierarchisation of courses into ‘general’, ‘prescribed’ and ‘high priority’, which sends out the message that they are valued differently. We believe that all disciplines should be valued equally; that the humanities and arts, and the other areas ‘de-prioritised’ under this scheme, provide an important contribution to society; and that they deserve and require continuing support.
