Statement

UMASA stands in solidarity with colleagues in the United States who are struggling to exercise academic freedom; to make decisions concerning the university’s governance; to protect the rights of international students and academics; to exercise the right to protest; and to maintain the institutions’ DEI policies, in the spirit of inclusive education and outreach. Critical thinking and research are infinitely enriched and stimulated by a diversity of viewpoints and cultural exchange. We are deeply concerned by the threatened erosion of such freedoms, rights and diversity in institutions of learning, and we applaud the institutions and colleagues who are standing their ground in the face of policies and funding cuts that aim to suppress their mission, core values and functions.
